Dr. Brian R. Heaps has an unsurpassed enthusiasm for practicing personalized medicine
and desires to be a leader in the medical profession.Dr. Heaps was awarded “Physician of the Year” at Memorial Hermann Sugar Land Hospital in December, 2011
He graduated from Brigham Young University where he was the Director of the
BYU Student Leadership Seminar and student body Vice President his
senior year as an undergraduate student. Next he earned his medical
degree from Medical College of Virginia where he received the
prestigious Mickael M. Kannan award for excellence in teaching.
Dr. Heaps completed residency training at the University of Texas – Houston. He
is currently the Director of Medical Informatics at Memorial Hermann
Hospital in Sugar Land and teaches physicians throughout the Houston
area regarding the use of current technology in patient care.
Dr. Heaps is also interested in minimally invasive surgery and continuing
clinical research. He has received awards due to his excellence in
Laparoscopic surgery and is a member of the American Association of
Gynecologic Laparoscopists (AAGL). He is skilled in office based
procedures for permanent birth control and heavy bleeding. In regards
to his research interests he has spent 2 years in Biochemistry Departments
at the University of Utah and MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. This
research experience, in part, led him to become the primary author on the
chapter entitled Matrix Biology and Preterm Birth in the text book Preterm Birth.
At Sweetwater Ob/Gyn Associates Dr. Heaps focuses his love of medicine and
enthusiasm to the care of his pregnant patients. His focuses are mother/baby
education, breast feeding, diabetes, hypertension and managing other health
issues during pregnancy. In addition to his work with Sweetwater Ob/Gyn he
enjoys volunteer work as a member of the Houston Rodeo Health Committee.
Currently Dr. Heaps lives in Sugar Land with his wife and three sons. He is
excited to continue to raise his family and develop his practice in this
community. He feels that it is one of his greatest honors to be involved
in the birth of a couple’s child and so he treats every patient’s
pregnancy and health with the utmost of care and concern.
